Local Union Standing Committees are the tools through which polices and programs aimed at strengthing our Union are put to work. They fulfill their responsibilities to the membership by implementing activities developed to seek the social, economic and political goals of UAW.
Local Union Standing Committees are the links in lines of communication in the workplace and help to improve members' awareness and understanding of the role each plays within our Union. The effectiveness of standing committees is the result of combined effort of all their members.
The overall responsibilities of many committees are spelled out in the UAW Constitution, but the specific procedures are determined by the local.

This committee is the worksite political-legislative arm of the local union and is the vital workplace political activator. While CAP priorities are developed by Convention action – implemented by the National CAP Department through the regions and our network of CAP Councils – the Citizenship and Legislative Committee is the basic link with our members at work in assisting the implementation of voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, dollar drives, letter writing campaigns, and publicizing the issues and positions of public officials. The committee also encourages special groups at the worksite – youth, women, minorities – to become active.
