SHOP CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Sisters and Brothers of Local 31:
We currently have 102 grievances in the procedure with 5 being discharges or terminations.
The schedule for the Saturdays has been posted in the daily newspaper for the remainder of the calendar year beginning with Saturday, March 27, 2010.
An additional 27 people have been requested from the NEPC and will arrive on March 29, 2010. These members have come from closed plants or thru applications to the NEPC. Join me in welcoming them to Local 31.
Vacation disposition should have been returned to all that applied. Remember that we have to use all of our vacation entitlement and everyone should review the availability of other dates within their department. Use ALL of your negotiated vacation.
At the last union meeting there was discussion about changing a holiday (Nov. 15 – Veteran’s Day) for another day. THAT MOTION FAILED AT THE MEETING AND THERE WILL NOT BE A VOTE TO CHANGE SUCH HOLIDAY UNLESS OTHER ACTION IS TAKEN AT FUTURE MEETINGS!!
The Fitness Center is in need of many repairs not only to the equipment but also the building (paint, patch, etc.) and in order to fix these repairs it will be necessary to close the center for 3 or 4 days. We are still waiting for all the supplies to arrive and the date has not been set on when the closing will occur, but we will communicate this prior to the date. Thanks for your cooperation.
We currently have 110 temporary employees in the plant and are negotiating a number of others for vacation relief. The majority of these temporaries will begin on May 10 and work until September 5. We have also had discussion with management about the use of “flex” employees for the remainder of the year. More information will follow on this as the dates get solidified.
The next union meeting will be held on April 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Union Hall. ALL elected and appointed officials are required to attend monthly union meetings.
Spring is quickly approaching and I am sure that everyone is looking forward to better weather and it will be here soon. Be careful – look out for our “future” that’s out there.
Enjoy your UAW-negotiated holiday and buckle up and drive safely.
If you need to contact your Shop Chairperson, my number in the plant is (913) 573-7776 or the number at the Union Hall is (913) 342-7330 where you can leave me a message.
