Brothers & Sisters,
We would like to welcome all of the new members to Local 31, and ask all of our new Veteran members who filled out for the wall also submit your application for a Veteran’s T-shirt. T-shirt order forms can be dropped in the communication boxes. If you are not on the Wall of Honor this year, we will have submission forms at the celebration on November 11, 2012 so that you will be on it in the years to come. We ask all members not to remove pages from the Wall. If you see a retired member on the Wall, please notify a member of the Veterans Committee so that we can fix it for the following year. Please remember that we will be doing a Gate Collection on the 11th as well, to support the gift bags for the two local VA hospitals.
The Veterans Committee is sponsoring the “Toys for Tots” again this year. The Marine Corps Reserve runs this organization. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
We will have collection bins at the plant gates to collect these toys, you may also drop them off at the Hall, and we ask all members to bring a toy to the November Union meeting, please help make this a successful campaign. For more information on this, please ask any member of the Veterans Committee. For more information on the “Toys for Tots”, you may visit their web site at www.toysfortots.org.
Happy Birthday Marines
In Solidarity,
The Veterans Committee
