Sisters and Brothers:
This year has already been very different from the past few years - between the down time and the winter weather! Hopefully everyone has been safe in their travels. Remember to call the Fairfax INFO line at 1-877-574-4705 before you leave home during the inclement weather to see if your shift has been cancelled.
We also have a lot going on in our communities. The Kansas State Legislature is proposing bills that will make it harder for working families like the so-called paycheck protection bill. In Missouri, the House has passed the Right-to-Work bill to the Senate where they have the votes to over-ride the Governor’s veto if passed. So we are working closely with our state representatives on both sides of the state line to defeat these attacks on working families. We also have elections going on here in Wyandotte County for mayor, city council and school boards. A complete endorsed candidate listing will be out after the primary on February 26.
Here within our local, I would like to congratulate our newly elected Shop Chairperson, Jorge Rodriguez. The elections for 1st Shift Zone, District 4 Alternate Committeeperson and District 11 Committeeperson will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013.
We want to remind everyone that there will be a “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” for our members’ kids and grandchildren on Saturday, March 23 starting at 9am here at the Union Hall. This will be for our members and retirees in good standing to bring their little ones who are up to age 12 to visit with the Easter Bunny.
The regular membership meeting will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2012. The executive board meeting will begin at 1:00 pm followed by the regular membership meeting at 2:00 pm. Please plan to attend.
In solidarity,
AJ Shumate
